Our 2018 election analysis is up! Check it out here.
Tuesday was a great night for North Carolina Democrats! Not only did we likely pick up 10 seats in the NC House and 6 seats in the NC Senate (one Dem-leaning seat in each chamber remains too close for a final call as provisional ballots are still being counted), but a number of candidates significantly overperformed expectations, giving us a clear path to breaking the majority in 2020. FLIP NC is an Indivisible group taking targeted, evidence-based action to elect progressives in North Carolina.
The Republican supermajority in both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly – a result of extreme gerrymandering – has led to policies that don’t reflect the priorities of most North Carolinians, regardless of party. We must return to a legislature that truly represents the people, where votes matter and there are no "safe seats."
The first step is to break the Republican supermajority and restore the governor's veto. Only 4 of the 120 NC House seats (or 6 of the 50 NC Senate seats) need to flip for Democrats to make it happen. And we only need to flip 15 seats – the same number Democrats flipped last year in Virginia – to break the majority.
